Bill overview
This bill prevents emergency homeless shelters in New Jersey from requiring people seeking shelter to be enrolled in or receive certain assistance programs as a condition of receiving a minimum of 72 hours of shelter. While shelters can require applications for programs after the initial 72-hour period, they cannot deny shelter based on a person's lack of enrollment in those programs, and must not exceed their licensed capacity to accommodate those seeking shelter. The bill aims to ensure access to emergency shelter regardless of an individual’s current support system.
