Bill overview
This bill would allow local municipalities, governed by the Uniform Nonpartisan Elections Law, to use instant run-off voting in elections for single-person local elective public offices. Instant run-off voting enables voters to rank candidates in order of preference; if no candidate receives a majority, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and their voters’ second choices are tallied. This process continues until a candidate secures a majority. The Secretary of State will be responsible for establishing rules and updating voting equipment to accommodate this system.
