Bill overview
This bill amends New Jersey law to allow volunteer firefighters and other emergency responders to be included within the eligible employee group for small employer health benefits plans. Currently, these individuals are not considered eligible employees under the existing statutes. This change would enable them to participate in and receive health benefits through small employer plans, providing greater access to coverage for these vital community members. The bill updates P.L.1992, c.162 to reflect this inclusion.
