Bill overview
This bill proposes to shorten the waiting period for medical aid in dying prescriptions. Currently, patients must wait 15 days between initial oral requests and a written request, and another 15 days between the written request and a prescription. This bill would waive these 15-day waiting periods if a doctor determines the patient is not expected to live for 15 days, with a 48-hour waiting period still required between the written request and the prescription. The bill also requires physicians to recommend palliative care options to patients seeking medical aid in dying.
