Bill overview
This bill requires the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to establish a maximum contaminant level (MCL) for hexavalent chromium, also known as chromium-VI, in drinking water. The MCL will be phased in over several years, starting with larger water systems and eventually smaller ones. The DEP may also consider adopting a stricter standard if recommended by the Drinking Water Quality Institute.
