Bill overview
This bill changes how the juvenile court in Nevada can handle cases involving adults 21 years or older who have committed certain delinquent acts. Currently, the juvenile court has limited jurisdiction over individuals over 21 unless the offense occurred when they were under 16. This bill expands the juvenile court’s jurisdiction to include cases where the offense occurred between the ages of 13 and 18, requiring the court to hold a hearing and consider factors like the seriousness of the crime and the individual’s behavior to determine if the case should be dismissed or transferred to adult criminal court. The changes will take effect on October 1, 2013.
