Bill overview
This bill revises the rules governing groundwater boards in Nevada. It changes how these boards are established, allowing counties to directly request their creation, and simplifies the process for appointing members. Importantly, the bill eliminates the requirement for the State to pay board members’ expenses and stipends, and establishes a four-year term limit for board members, unless the State Engineer approves an extension. Only one groundwater board will be allowed per designated basin, and the State Engineer must consider the board’s recommendations on reducing overpumping.
