Bill overview
This bill changes the severity of burglary of a residence in New Jersey. Currently, it’s a second-degree crime, but the bill upgrades it to a first-degree crime if the perpetrator is armed with or displays an explosive or deadly weapon. The bill also clarifies sentencing guidelines for these offenses, particularly regarding the No Early Release Act (NERA) for first-degree burglary with a weapon.
