Bill overview
This bill creates a new crime called ‘gang shoplifting’ in New Jersey. It defines this crime as when two or more people enter a store and intentionally steal merchandise, display it openly, or damage items within the store with the intent to deprive the merchant of the goods or property. A conviction for gang shoplifting is a third-degree crime, carrying a minimum sentence of one year in prison, and is not subject to parole eligibility.
