Bill overview
This bill allows courts in New Jersey to issue restraining orders against defendants charged with crimes as a condition of their release on bail, appearance bond, or personal recognizance. These orders would prohibit the defendant from entering specific locations, including places where crimes occurred or where witnesses or family members reside. The court can waive the order if the defendant has a legitimate reason to be at the location, or if issuing the order would cause undue hardship. Violations of the order can lead to contempt charges or revocation of bail.
