Overview
This bill directs $111.6 million in funds from natural resource damages – collected through legal settlements – to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). These funds will be used to restore and enhance habitats, purchase land for conservation, and oversee restoration projects. The DEP can then distribute these funds as grants or loans to state, local government, and nonprofit organizations. This bill is identical to a Senate bill currently under consideration.
