Bill overview
This bill amends New Jersey’s law regarding expungement of criminal records. It expands eligibility for expungement by allowing individuals convicted of multiple crimes or a combination of crimes and disorderly persons offenses to seek relief, provided they haven't had prior convictions expunged. Furthermore, it introduces a provision allowing individuals convicted of more than one third or fourth-degree crime to pursue expungement if they can demonstrate rehabilitation through clear and convincing evidence. The bill also clarifies the application of expungement to certain drug-related offenses and prohibits expungement for specific serious crimes.
