This bill allows school districts in New Jersey to recognize absences due to a student’s mental or behavioral health as excused absences. It directs the Commissioner of Education to work with the Commissioner of Health to create guidelines for how school districts should define and handle these absences. These guidelines will specify what documentation a student might need to provide upon returning to school after an excused absence for mental or behavioral health reasons.
