Bill overview
This bill requires the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) to provide psychiatric service dogs to first responders, health care workers, and other frontline workers who have developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The DHS will contract with trained service dog agencies to provide these dogs to eligible individuals, who must meet specific criteria including residency, employment, and a medical diagnosis of PTSD. Recipients will be responsible for the dog’s care but not its initial cost.
