Bill overview
This bill allows local government officers and employees, excluding those in local school districts, to receive payment for accumulated unused sick leave they’ve earned. Political subdivisions or agencies can decide, at their discretion, to pay this leave as supplemental compensation, subject to certain limits on the amount of leave paid (up to three weeks) and the frequency of payment (once per year). The payment rate will not exceed 60% of the employee’s daily pay, and it won’t reduce the employee’s overall sick leave accrual below 100 days per year. The bill also clarifies that retirement payments for unused sick leave will continue to be capped at $15,000.
