Bill overview
This bill expands NJ FamilyCare coverage to include ‘food prescriptions’ for certain enrollees diagnosed with diet-related medical conditions like Type II diabetes, hypertension, or obesity. These prescriptions can be filled at participating small food retailers and retail pharmacies through the ‘Healthy Corner Store and Retail Pharmacy Program.’ The bill also provides financial assistance to these retailers to help them stock healthy foods and requires the Department of Human Services to monitor the program’s effectiveness and report on its impact.
