Overview
This bill establishes a three-year pilot program in Ocean County, New Jersey, to provide funding for nonpublic schools to handle mandated pupil transportation. A county consortium of nonpublic schools will take over the responsibility of transporting students to and from school, currently handled by school districts. The program will distribute funds to the consortium equivalent to the current ‘aid in-lieu-of transportation’ amount for eligible students, and the consortium will be responsible for managing transportation services. The program also addresses the transfer of assets and liabilities from a previous pilot program and requires an oversight committee to monitor its implementation.
