Overview
This bill would allow local municipalities governed by the Uniform Nonpartisan Elections Law to use instant run-off voting in elections for local elective public offices. Instant run-off voting allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference, and if no candidate receives a majority, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and their votes are redistributed to the voters’ next choice. This process continues until a candidate secures a majority. The Secretary of State will be responsible for creating regulations to implement this system.
