Overview
This bill amends New Jersey law to increase penalties for certain housing code violations. It allows municipalities to impose fines of up to $4,000 for continuing, flagrant violations, provided the property owner receives proper notice and an opportunity for a hearing before a fine exceeding $1,250 is imposed. Additionally, the bill creates a new disorderly persons offense for individuals who fail to respond to multiple notices regarding habitability issues after receiving proper notification.
