Overview
This bill creates tax credits for New Jersey businesses that hire qualified ex-offenders. Businesses can receive a credit against their corporation business tax and gross income tax equal to 15% of the wages paid to these employees, up to a maximum of $900 per employee. To qualify, an individual must have been convicted of a crime of the first, second, third, or fourth degree and hired within one year of their release from incarceration. The credits are modeled after the federal Work Opportunity Tax Credit.
