Overview
This bill requires New Jersey school districts and the Department of Education to address chronic absenteeism among students. Districts with a chronic absenteeism rate of 10% or higher, or schools with a rate of 15% or higher, must establish attendance review teams to investigate the reasons behind student absences and recommend interventions. The Department of Education will also create a statewide plan to help districts prevent and reduce chronic absenteeism, including data collection and analysis, and potentially mentorship programs.
