Overview
This bill would allow retired members of the New Jersey Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) to return to elective public office under specific conditions. A retiree could return to a former employer’s position, either by appointment or election, without canceling their retirement and rejoining the system, provided they started the return after receiving their retirement allowance, reached their service retirement age at the time of retirement, and the new position’s compensation is below $12,000 per year.
