Overview
This bill creates a faster legal process, called an expedited ejectment proceeding, for property owners in New Jersey to remove unauthorized occupants from their real estate. If a person is living on a property without the owner’s permission, has no legal right to be there, and hasn’t paid rent, the court must hold a hearing within three business days of receiving a complaint. The property owner must provide specific written notice to the occupant, and the court can issue a writ of possession to have the occupant removed, with potential for tripled damages for the property owner.
