Overview
This bill changes New Jersey’s laws about when it’s justified to use force, including deadly force. It allows individuals to use or threaten force, except deadly force, to defend themselves or others against imminent unlawful force, without a duty to retreat. Additionally, it outlines specific circumstances where using deadly force is justified, such as to prevent imminent death or serious injury, or to stop the commission of certain serious crimes. The current laws regarding these topics are being repealed and replaced by this legislation.
