Overview
This bill requires New Jersey law enforcement agencies and courts to notify federal immigration authorities when a person arrested or convicted is a non-citizen unlawfully present in the state and charged or convicted of certain crimes. Specifically, agencies must report arrests of such individuals, and courts must notify immigration officials upon conviction. Correctional facilities are also required to cooperate with immigration authorities regarding convicted non-citizens. The goal is to initiate deportation proceedings for those individuals.
