Overview
This bill allows temporary employees of State psychiatric institutions or correctional facilities to apply for Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) accidental disability benefits for injuries sustained after January 2003 while employed at those facilities. Currently, these employees are not eligible for PERS benefits even after becoming members if the injury occurred before membership. The bill retroactively extends eligibility to these temporary employees, and also requires the Civil Service Commission to implement a personnel orientation program to inform new employees of the risk of injury in these roles.
