Overview
This bill requires employers in New Jersey to provide two hours of paid leave annually to employees for voting in general elections. Employers must offer paid time off that can be used at the beginning or end of a shift, and employees must provide two business days’ notice. Certain employees, such as those in construction under union contracts, per diem healthcare workers, and public employees with existing voting leave, are exempt. Violations of the bill could result in penalties under existing wage and hour laws.
