Overview
This bill requires New Jersey counties to appoint a county pretrial release coordinator who will assess the needs of defendants awaiting trial and connect them with relevant social services and rehabilitative programs. The coordinator will assist with accessing public benefits, substance use disorder treatment, and other support services, all on a voluntary basis. The coordinator will also collect data to evaluate the effectiveness of these services and consult with community stakeholders to improve support for defendants on pretrial release.
