Overview
This bill requires New Jersey’s Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to consider whether proposed rate increases by electric public utilities are affordable for ratepayers before approving ‘base rate cases.’ The BPU will now factor affordability into its assessment of whether a rate increase is ‘just and reasonable.’ The bill applies to rate increase petitions submitted to the BPU starting from the date of enactment.
