Overview
This bill allows local government officers and employees, excluding those in local school districts, to receive payment for accumulated unused sick leave earned. It permits political subdivisions and related agencies to make this payment at their discretion, subject to limits on the amount of leave paid (up to three weeks), the number of working days maintained, and the frequency of payment. The payment rate is capped at 60% of the employee’s daily pay, and it cannot be funded through special emergency appropriations. The bill also clarifies that retirement payments for unused sick leave will continue to be capped at $15,000.
