Overview
This bill requires New Jersey’s solid waste management districts to create plans to reduce food waste by at least 50% by 2035, compared to 2022 levels. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will develop guidelines for districts and create regulations for composting facilities to encourage the diversion of food waste through composting and other methods. The goal is to reduce landfill waste and methane emissions.
