Overview
This bill, the Climate Corporate Data Accountability Act, would require large businesses operating in New Jersey with annual revenues exceeding $1 billion to publicly report their greenhouse gas emissions. These reports would cover both direct emissions (Scope 1) and emissions from purchased electricity and heat (Scope 2). The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) would oversee the reporting process and work with a nonprofit organization and a Rutgers University affiliate to analyze and disseminate the data. The bill also includes provisions for penalties for non-compliance and allows for the use of existing reporting frameworks to ease the burden on companies.
