Overview
This bill requires New Jersey’s electric public utilities to obtain approval from the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) through a ‘certificate of public convenience and necessity’ before building new transmission lines or making significant changes to existing ones. The application process will require utilities to provide information to the BPU and pay an application fee. The BPU will then review the project to ensure it’s necessary, cost-effective, and won’t negatively impact customers.
