Overview
This bill requires New Jersey hospitals that conduct urine drug screenings on patients to also test for fentanyl. Currently, these screenings often don't include fentanyl testing, despite the increasing prevalence of fentanyl in drug supplies and its association with overdose deaths. By adding fentanyl testing, the bill aims to improve patient care and potentially prevent overdoses. The law will take effect immediately and expire on January 1, 2028.
