Overview
This bill requires New Jersey’s public colleges and universities to offer academic credit to volunteer emergency responders. Specifically, students who are enrolled in a degree program, have volunteered within the past five years, can demonstrate their volunteer hours, and served with a recognized emergency response organization (like a fire company or Office of Emergency Management) are eligible for credit. The amount of credit awarded will be based on the number of volunteer hours served, and the Secretary of Higher Education will develop guidelines for institutions to follow.
