Overview
This bill prohibits New Jersey municipalities and counties from establishing ‘sanctuary city’ policies, which are defined as ordinances requiring officials to refuse cooperation with federal immigration enforcement requests. It also establishes ethics violations for state and local employees who fail to comply with such requests. Furthermore, the bill provides legal defense and indemnification for state employees cooperating with federal immigration authorities, and amends existing ethics codes to strengthen restrictions on officials’ financial interests and conflicts of interest.
