Overview
This bill increases penalties for second or subsequent stalking or harassment offenses in New Jersey and raises the penalty for a first offense of harassment. Specifically, a second or subsequent stalking offense will be charged as a third-degree crime, requiring a minimum three-year prison sentence with no parole eligibility. Similarly, a second or subsequent harassment offense will also be charged as a third-degree crime, also carrying a minimum three-year prison sentence. The bill also clarifies definitions related to ‘course of conduct’ and ‘repeatedly’ within the stalking statute.
