Overview
This bill extends the deadline for New Jersey taxpayers to file amended tax returns and claim refunds for overpayments related to military pension payments or military survivor’s benefit payments. Currently, taxpayers have three years from the original return filing or tax payment date to file an amended return. This bill extends that timeframe to 10 years, allowing more time to correct errors in reporting these payments as taxable income. The refund amount will not exceed the amount that would have been available if the claim had been filed within the original timeframe.
