Overview
This bill allows small municipalities with populations under 2,500 to voluntarily remove themselves from New Jersey’s civil service system by passing an ordinance. If a municipality chooses to do so, the ordinance must be certified to the New Jersey Civil Service Commission, and the change will take effect six months later. A municipality cannot readopt civil service rules for at least five years after rescinding them, and can only do so once.
