Overview
This bill prohibits banks and other lending institutions in New Jersey from discriminating against people when offering or providing mortgage loans based on whether they have children or are a parent. It defines ‘familial status’ broadly to include parents, adoptive parents, and those with custody of children. Individuals who experience discrimination can sue for damages, and the state’s banking regulator has the power to investigate and enforce the law.
