Overview
This bill requires the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) to assist discharged service members who received less than honorable discharges due to sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, or who were discharged with other than honorable, bad conduct, or dishonorable discharges, and who have since been diagnosed with a service-connected mental health condition. The DMVA will provide assistance with petitions to change the discharge designation to honorable, streamlining the process and ensuring access to necessary forms. It also guarantees these service members the same rights and benefits as those discharged honorably and protects the confidentiality of their records.
