Overview
This bill requires owners of certain buildings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities, to regularly test their drinking water for Legionella bacteria. Starting two years after the law’s enactment, building owners must test at least once per year, using methods approved by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). If Legionella is detected, owners must notify residents and take steps to remediate the contamination within six months. The DEP will develop specific testing standards and best practices to ensure water quality.
