Overview
This bill requires owners and operators of public community water systems in New Jersey to regularly test for Legionella bacteria. Starting two years after the law’s enactment, systems must test water from service lines at least every three months and water facilities monthly. If Legionella levels exceed a standard set by the Department of Environmental Protection, the system must notify affected customers and remediate the contamination within six months. The bill also directs the Department to develop best practices and testing standards.
