Overview
This bill restricts the location of new crematories in New Jersey. It requires that a crematory be situated only on dedicated cemetery property that isn’t already used for crematories or the disposition of cremated remains. Specifically, a new crematory cannot be built within 1,000 feet of a public or private school, a primarily residential area, or certain recreational areas like parks and beaches. The law takes effect immediately and is retroactive to January 1, 2025.
