Overview
This bill revises how reimbursement costs are determined when a law enforcement agency hires a recently trained officer from another agency. Specifically, it clarifies the timeframe for when the former employer is liable for costs associated with the officer’s training and hiring. Currently, if the officer held a permanent appointment for 30 days or less, the new employer is responsible for the total certified costs. However, if the officer held a permanent appointment for more than 30 days but less than two years, the new employer is only responsible for half of those costs. The bill shortens the period for which the new employer is liable for reimbursement payments.
