Overview
This bill requires automatic machine recounts for New Jersey elections where two or more candidates tie for office. If the initial machine recount also results in a tie, an automatic hand recount will be conducted. If the hand recount still produces a tie, a special election will be held within 60 days to resolve the tie, using the same procedures as other elections outlined in state law. The state will cover the costs associated with these recounts and special elections.
