Overview
This bill authorizes the use of school bus monitoring systems in New Jersey to improve student safety. It amends existing law to allow municipalities and school districts to contract with private vendors to install and maintain these systems, which capture video and image data of vehicles near school buses. Violations of passing school buses while they are stopped will result in a civil penalty of $250, rather than a fine and potential imprisonment, when evidence is captured by the monitoring system.
