Overview
“Breann’s Law” requires health insurers, including SHBP and NJ FamilyCare, to provide ‘out-of-network’ coverage for children diagnosed with catastrophic illnesses. This means that if a child with a life-threatening or serious illness needs care from a doctor or hospital not part of their insurer’s network, the insurer must cover those services to the same extent as if the care were provided within the network, provided a referral came from an in-network provider. The bill aims to ensure that children facing serious illnesses receive necessary care regardless of provider location.
