Bill overview
This bill would allow certain municipalities in New Jersey to permit single exit stairwells in new residential buildings, specifically for Group R-2 occupancies (residential buildings with more than two dwelling units). It would allow buildings under six stories to have a single exit stairwell, with exceptions for the first floor which must be used for non-residential purposes. The bill also directs the Department of Community Affairs to create a model ordinance to assist municipalities in implementing this change.
