Bill overview
This bill changes how New Jersey schools handle the financial responsibility for educating homeless students. It establishes that the school district where a homeless student last resided is responsible for determining their educational placement and covering tuition and transportation costs for the remainder of the current school year. In subsequent years, the district where the student is currently enrolled will be responsible. If a student resides in a shelter outside their district for over a year, the state will assume the tuition costs.
